T-totes = Plastic Bag Reduction campaign
With our dependency on foreign oil and petroleum products more and more apparent, IDEAS chapters helps to educate students and local communities about one unique way to reduce our consumption of petroleum plastic.
“T-totes” are made by creating reusable tote bags out of old recycled t-shirts, helping reduce our plastic consumption and create a sustainable solution to our issue. By making proper modifications to the sleeves and neck area of a t-shirt and sewing the bottom of the shirt, we successfully created a method of up-cycling old goods.
In 2010, IDEAS won the “Best Campaign of the Year” through Campus Progress and the Center for American Progress!

The UF chapter even created a Bike Powered T-totes machine, using HUMAN ENERGY to power the tote making process!

In addition, we create “Plastic Bag Braceletes” out of the bags that are traded for a T-tote.
